The Comal ISD Board of Trustees has made the commitment to hire additional School Resource Officers (SRO) with the goal of having an armed law enforcement presence at each campus for the 2023-24 school year.

Comal ISD is hosting two student immunization clinics on Thursday, Aug. 3, at two locations. The clinics are open to school-aged children through age 18.

The 2022-2023 Campus Teachers of the Year along with a few special award recipients were honored at the annual Night of Stars banquet in May where two teachers were announced as the District Teachers of the Year.

The Comal ISD Board of Trustees approved a $305 million general fund budget on Thursday evening during its regular monthly meeting with a focus on six key priorities.

Two Comal ISD teams won the Spring 2023 Stock Market Game challenge topping teams throughout Central Texas in both the middle and elementary school divisions. The winning teams consisted of sixth-grade students from Mountain Valley Middle School and fourth-grade students from Johnson Ranch Elementary.

The Canyon High softball team made headlines and gained new fans during its exciting season that resulted in a second-place state finish. The 17-member team ended the year with a record of 32-1.

More than a dozen high school students from across Comal ISD qualified for the 2023 UIL Academic State Meet in various contests including computer science, debate, number sense, literary criticism, poetry, ready writing, science, spelling and more.

The journalism program at Smithson Valley High School consistently wins awards, and this year was no exception with its online newspaper receiving a Bronze Star and its yearbook receiving a Distinguished Merit award. Individual students also earned accolades for their photography and writing skills.

This year, two Comal ISD teams qualified for the national FFA competition, and more than 50 students advanced to the state competition. Career Development Events (CDE) through FFA help prepare students for careers in agriculture and beyond while honing their leadership, interpersonal and teamwork skills.

This year, 28 art students received honors for their submissions in the Texas High School Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) with one earning the coveted Gold Seal and eight earning an Exemplary rating.
